The Importance of Using an Antioxidants on your Skin

Antioxidants

Many of my patients ask me, “What is the Importance of using Antioxidants on your skin?”. Antioxidants are the bodyguards of your skin, they are brave and fearless and fight against free radicals (oxidation) which cause mayhem on our skin. Antioxidants prevent and repair the damage done by oxidants. Good quality antioxidants are not very cheap and they have to be packaged correctly in opaque containers or air-restricted pumps or bottles.

Commonly recommended Antioxidants are Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and Ferulic acid.
Vitamin C is truly one of my powerhouse topical therapies when it comes to antiaging and one of the best vitamins you can ‘feed’ your skin.

My Favourites Antioxidants are Obagi Prof C, Neostrata Antioxidant Serum & Dermaceutic C25.

Now that you know the importance of using antioxidants on your skin, let’s talk about the different sources of antioxidants for your skin!

Vitamin A

Vitamin A is another favorite go-to ingredient that is considered the gold standard of antiaging by many dermatologists.

Vitamin A actively promotes skin peeling and turnover by speeding up the cell shedding process to give the skin an even tone and radiance. Choose a strength of Vitamin A you can tolerate and introduce it slowly into your skin regime.

My favorites

Restylane night serum, Neostrata Skin Active Retinol + NAG Complex, Dermaceutic Retinol.

Superficial Chemical Peels

As you age your cellular turnover slows down and causes a build-up of dead skin cells on the surface of the skin that makes it dull. These dead skin cells cannot be removed with ordinary cleansers. Have a chemical peel regularly to speed up cell renewal and to give your skin a healthy glow.

Skin Microneedling

Microneedling stimulates new collagen and elastin formation resulting in tighter and healthier skin.

Hydration Facials

These facials include a cleanse, tone, exfoliation, serum, massage, mask and protection that leave your skin hydrated, supple and brighter.

LED Light Therapy

This procedure includes using different light wavelengths to promote the skin’s wound healing process. Light Therapy benefits the skin further with collagen and elastin production that leaves your skin with an even tone, reduced inflammation, and redness in sensitized skin.
