‘Acid’ and ‘peel’ aren’t the words you would want to see in the same sentence as skin, however, facial chemical peels are important for skin cell renewal, especially when you want that glow! Many people are misinformed about these peels and are scared of them which is why I am here to tell you why you SHOULD get one!
The truth is that superficial glycolic peels are actually one of the BEST and least invasive ways to improve your skin. Glycolic peels are suitable for most people, even those without a specific concern and what’s more, you don’t need to have any downtime, it can be done during your lunch break!
So What Does a Facial Chemical Peel do?
The natural process of skin renewal slows down with age giving the skin a tired and dull look due to the lack of elasticity. Chemical peels are mild acids that break down bonds between your skin layers causing an “exfoliation‘’ to give you smoother, brighter skin and improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and blemishes.
What Can You Expect?
We promise there are no sheets of skin falling off your face. The after-effects of a glycolic peel are nowhere near that. Normally, you look very “glowy” for three days following the peel then on day four or five after the peel, you may shed individual skin cells, so the skin can look slightly dryer and you can have some mild flaking which will also settle.
One thing you do need to be cautious about after your chemical peel is sun damage. You need to ensure that you are using a good sunscreen on your face – you should be doing that already – after a chemical peel.
How Many Peels Will I Need?
It all depends on your skin concerns. Generally, if it is your first course for superficial glycolic peels I would recommend one per month for 4 months. After this, we will focus on maintenance – one peel every three months.
So why not give it a try and see the benefits? Get a tailored plan based on your concerns. The use of sunscreen is mandatory at all times.
